Hello from Mon Repos,
WinEllis are managing the construction of an exciting new Early Learning Centre in Bundaberg. Whilst in Bundaberg for our regular site inspection and project meeting, Astra took the opportunity to visit the Mon Repos Turtle Centre.
Along with many other keen environmentalists, we witnessed the natural miracle of turtles hatching. It really was the opportunity of a lifetime to watch a nest of endangered Loggerhead turtles emerge from the warmth and safety of their eggs and sandy nest.
Once all 76 of the baby turtles had scrambled onto the beach, the rangers helped everyone to say a quick hello before creating a pathway of high hopes and torches to light their way to the ocean.
It was a very memorable and moving experience to witness the baby turtles taking their first steps, and to help them start their dangerous journey as they scurried down the sand dunes towards the sea.
It is also an important reminder to everyone, keep plastic out of our oceans and beaches, as sadly only 1 in 1,000 endangered Loggerhead turtles make it to maturity.
Astra had such a great time, we wanted to share the experience with you. We would definitely recommend a trip to Bundaberg to create some amazing memories that will last a lifetime!
Wishing you a safe and Happy Easter!
